Braintree only 3rd club in Essex to be presented with the RFU Seal of Approval
The committee and coaches from the Youth and Mini Section were to delighted to receive the RFU Seal of Approval at a luncheon before the Braintree v Harlow league game on Saturday 17th February, attended by founder members and 'old boys' of the club.  Only the third Essex Rugby Club to receive this award, the presentation was made by Essex RFU Rugby Development Officer Keith Green, and accepted by Youth and Mini Chairman Corinne Winwood, whose husband Barrie had been the main 'mover and shaker' behind putting the application together.  Alongside the Seal of Approval, Braintree also received the Sport Essex Clubmark and the Essex Sports Clubs ClubSX award.  Essex County RFU President Mike Drinkwater said "Braintree are to be congratulated for the quality of their submission as well as the high standards they have achieved through their volunteer workforce."  He also went on to personally congratulate all those Very Valued Volunteers "who have put so much effort into making the youth section of Braintree RFC such a welcoming experience for all."  He also presented Very Valued Volunteer Awards to Development Squad Manager Neville Potts and Club Coaching Co-ordinater Barrie Winwood.
Newly appointed Rugby Development Officer for Essex , Keith Green said “Braintree RFC has worked very hard at meeting all the criteria required to obtain this award.  The RFU Community Rugby programme introduced the Seal of Approval accreditation programme as a method of examining, maintaining and improving the provision of rugby in the youth section of rugby clubs.  Building upon current good practice, the accreditation aims to recognise the effort and achievement of those clubs that reach, maintain and improve on the required standard of a club committed to the community rugby development programme.  I am pleased to say that Braintree RFC has reached these criteria to a high standard.”  Ivor Smith, Honorary Secretary of Essex, was also on hand to see the award presented, along with Vice Chairman of Braintree Council, Councilor Beryl Gage and Sports Editor of the Essex Chronicle Gary Stubbings.
